STATEMENT OF HIZBUT TAHRIR INDONESIA

FLUCTUATION IN PAPUA:
Reject Separatist movements and Foreign Interferences

Attempting to separate or free Papua from Republic of Indonesia is one of sources of fluctuation that always occurs in Papua nowadays. These secessionist efforts are conducted by three elements those move together hand in hand. They are: first, armed movement, TPN/OPM (National Army for liberation/Free Papua Organization). All the time this TPN/OPM is conducting turmoil and armed conflict in Papua, including several attacks which happened recently as recognized by OPM itself.

Second, overseas diplomatic elements are mainly two organizations namely ILWP (International Lawyers for West Papua) and IPWP (International Parliament for West Papua). Both are headquartered in Europe (UK) and initiated and led by FWPC (Free West Papua Campaign) an organization led by Beny Wenda. IPWP and ILWP are mandated by TPN / OPM and supported by KNPB to fight for the independence of Papua through internationalizing Papua issues and encouraging the UN to discuss it either in the General Assembly or the Committee of colonization.

Third, the domestic political elements both are NGOs or organizations those strengthen the referendum through a series of demonstrations, seminars or other activities. Among them is the demonstration on August 1, 2011 driven by KNPB (National Committee of West Papua) in Jayapura, Nabire, Timika and Manokwari to support Papuan independence. Those are intended to support the conferences conducted in London by ILWP.

According to a study conducted by LIPI, there are four roots of problems those put Papua in turmoil continuously. First, the problem of history and political status of Papua’s integration into Indonesia, which for some people of Papua is considered not correct. Secondly, state violence and human rights abuses. The issue of military operations that took place since 1965 caused traumatic and collective wounds in the people of Papua. Third, discrimination and marginalization towards Papua people by various policies of government. Fourth, The failure of development in Papua particularly in education, health and economics. And there’s another one that cannot be released, namely the intervention of foreign countries, particularly the United States (U.S.), which is indeed very interested in Papua. There are working a number of US-owned companies, especially Freeport.

Papua position is so important, so in a relatively short time this matter was mentioned by three top U.S. officials. Ie, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in a courtesy call to President SBY in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday (24/10/2011). Next, on the eve of Obama’s visit, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke up about the conflict in Papua. Clinton expressed concerns about the human rights situation in Papua. He called for dialogue to meet the aspirations of the people in the area of conflict (AFP, 11/11). And Obama himself in his talks with President Yudhoyono in Bali also addressed the issue of Papua.

Regarding this,  Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia states:

1. All efforts and all forms of separatist movements and foreign interferences to separate Papua from Indonesia should be rejected and stopped. In syar’iy, the separation of an area of a Muslim country is unlawful.

2. Complete settlement for Papua crisis is fair and equitable development fulfilling basic need such as clothing, housing, food and economic infrastructure, education and health. And those all can only be realized by the Islamic economic system that makes a fair distribution of wealth as the focus. And those all are impossible realized by the capitalist economic system as happened during this time. And not least to do is to integrate Papua people into a single unit of society, both politically, economically and socially – the culture, in which there is no discrimination and marginalization. All these can be realized if only Islamic law is applied in full. That’s the only total solution for all problems in Papua.

3. Therefore, Hizbut Tahrir calls on Muslims everywhere to more strengthen struggle to realize the life of Islam, the life where the Islamic laws applied in full under the shade of the Khilafah. It is the only way to gain Islam as rahmatan lil ‘alamin as Allah has promised to hosts, including for Papuan.

MEDIA RELEASE

Prosperity for people of Papua and Disintegration decline

HTI Press. Hundreds of activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia made a rally to reject the separatism movement in Papua, on Tuesday afternoon (13/12) at the Roundabout Hotel Indonesia, Jakarta.

On the sidelines of the action, Farid Wadjdi a member of the Political department of HTI warned Papuans that the disintegration was not the solution of the poverty that afflicts them. He also pointed out the release of East Timor from Indonesia did not make the people prosperous.

“Because of poverty in Papua or East Timor due to the application of the capitalist system by the government,” he said.

Capitalist system legalizes foreign invaders conspiracy including the imperialist US to rob Indonesia’s natural resources. They conspire with the government.

“Therefore Sharia and Khilafah are the solutions. Because the Khilafah will never give a chance for these robberies to occur,” he said.

Farid also explained that the Islamic Sharia obligate the Khilafah to manage the natural resources including the gold mine in Timika for the welfare of every individual of the people including the people of Papua.

“Therefore, HTI offers Shariah and Khilafah as a solution to ensure the welfare of the people and to unite and integrate the state,” he concluded.
